India head coach Gautam Gambhir made an urgent return from England after his mother suffered a heart attack and was admitted to ICU in India.
Gambhir was to oversee India's final Test preparations but will miss the India vs India A practice game (June 13-16). Assistant coaches will manage.
While return date isn't confirmed, Gambhir is expected to rejoin before the 1st Test at Leeds starting June 20, pending his mother's condition.
BCCI announced the India-India A game will be closed-door with no media access. The intra-squad match won't have first-class status.
Several players like Jaiswal, Rahul and Thakur feature in both squads. India A includes Gaikwad, Sarfaraz Khan while Tests have Bumrah, Pant.
Assistant coaches Ryan Ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel will handle preparations in Gambhir's absence during this critical phase.
This comes as India prepares for important England Tests, with Gambhir having recently taken over as head coach from Rahul Dravid.
