Virat Kohli has suffered a setback in the latest ICC ODI rankings for batsmen. Kohli is no longer ranked first. New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell has replaced Kohli at the top spot. Mitchell batted brilliantly in the recent ODI series against India. He scored two centuries and amassed a total of 352 runs, making him the number one batsman in ODIs.

Virat has now slipped to second place. Mitchell has 845 rating points, while Virat Kohli has 795. Rohit Sharma also suffered a loss in the latest rankings, dropping one spot. Four Indian players are among the top 10 batsmen. KL Rahul has benefited from his century in the series against New Zealand, moving up to tenth place.

Kohli was India’s last hope in the decisive match played in Indore. He played a brilliant innings of 124 runs from 108 balls, but Mitchell’s bat proved to be more powerful that day. The 34-year-old New Zealand batsman scored 137 runs from 131 balls to take the team to a strong score and then took a catch in a crucial moment to finish the match.

This was Mitchell’s ninth ODI century, and with it, he also set a unique record. He became the fourth-fastest batsman in the world to score nine centuries in just 54 ODI innings. He is ahead of only Imam-ul-Haq, Hashim Amla, and Quinton de Kock. Mitchell’s performance was impressive throughout the series.

He scored a total of 352 runs in three matches, the most by any Kiwi batsman in a three-match ODI series. This figure is also the third-highest in ODI history. He is behind only Babar Azam (360) and Shubman Gill (360). He was also the team’s top scorer, scoring an unbeaten 131 in the second ODI and 84 in the first.

By scoring more than 130 runs in two consecutive innings, Mitchell equaled Martin Guptill on the list of batsmen with the highest such scores for New Zealand. This impressive performance was rewarded by becoming the No. 1 batsman in the ICC ODI batting rankings. With 845 points, he surpassed Virat Kohli, who is now in second place.
