Bangladesh to Boycott T20 World Cup, Announces Withdrawal from Tournament Held in India

ICC T20 World Cup 2026: After a setback from the International Cricket Council, Bangladesh has made a shocking decision regarding the T20 World Cup. Bangladesh has announced a boycott of the ICC T20 World Cup. This announcement was made by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

Bangladesh had requested the ICC to shift their matches from India to Sri Lanka, citing security concerns and potential threats to their players. The ICC rejected the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s demand outright, delivering a blow to the country.

Now, an advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh has stated that they will stand firm on their stance regarding the T20 World Cup. This clearly means that if the ICC does not shift Bangladesh’s matches from India to Sri Lanka, they will boycott the tournament.

Bangladesh Cricket Board Levels Allegations

After receiving a warning from the International Cricket Council, the agitated Bangladesh Cricket Control Board held a meeting with all the players on Thursday. ​​Following the meeting, Asif Nazrul, who serves as the sports advisor in the interim government, levelled serious allegations against the ICC.

He said that the ICC has not done justice to Bangladesh and is ignoring the security concerns of the players. According to Asif Nazrul, the government, the cricket board, and the players are all in agreement that security will not be compromised under any circumstances.

He stated clearly, “We will not bow down to anyone’s pressure. The world should also understand what the consequences will be if Bangladesh does not play in the World Cup. We cannot compromise on the security of our players.”

The Bangladesh Cricket Board reiterated that their decision is absolutely final. The board says that playing in India is not safe under the current circumstances, and therefore, re the venue should be changed to Sri Lanka. Earlier, the ICC had made it clearthat theyy would not move the T20 World Cup out of India.
