Monsoon Alert: With light rainfall across several states, a mild chill is being felt once again. The rains have led to a noticeable drop in maximum temperatures. Consequently, people appear to be finding significant relief from the heat. The impact of the heatwave is expected to subside over the next few days. According to the Meteorological Department, between March 16 and 17, skies will remain overcast in many parts of North India due to a Western Disturbance; some regions may witness storms, thunder and lightning, and light to moderate rainfall.
Residents of North India had been visibly distressed by the intense heat that had prevailed for several days; however, the recent rainfall has brought them considerable relief. An alert for rain accompanied by storms has been issued for 18 states, including Uttar Pradesh. On Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert anticipating heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. Additionally, an alert regarding strong winds has been issued for several locations across Uttarakhand.
Which States Will Witness Heavy Rainfall?
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for storms, rain, and lightning strikes in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Odisha, Bihar, Sikkim, and Uttar Pradesh. There is also a possibility of hailstorms, accompanied by strong winds and heavy rainfall, across these 18 states.
Snowfall in Kashmir and Uttarakhand
Snowfall was recorded on Sunday in the higher-altitude regions of Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Consequently, the Srinagar-Leh National Highway has been closed due to the snowfall. According to the Meteorological Department, an alert for light rainfall has been issued for Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir, valid until March 21.
What Will the Weather Be Like in Bihar?
The weather is expected to undergo a change in several districts of Bihar between March 16 and 17. Warnings regarding strong winds and rainfall have been issued for Patna, Muzaffarpur, Purnia, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, and their neighbouring districts.
What Will the Weather Be Like in Uttar Pradesh?
Weather conditions in Uttar Pradesh are likely to remain fluctuating over the next three days. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding strong winds, thunderstorms, and rainfall across several districts of Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Lightning strikes and hailstorms have also been forecast for Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Bulandshahr, and surrounding districts.
Heavy Rainfall Expected in These States
The IMD has issued a rain warning for Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir for the period between March 16 and March 19. Rainfall is also likely in Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Jharkhand. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain accompanied by thunderstorms in Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
