8th Pay Commission: Big news for central govt employees. 8th Pay Commission Latest Update: A significant meeting concerning the salary adjustments for central government employees is set to take place shortly. The Drafting Committee of the National Council (Joint Consultative Machinery) will convene on April 13, 2026, to discuss the final proposal that will be presented to the 8th Pay Commission.

This meeting is occurring at a time when many employees and pensioners are eagerly awaiting news on pay raises. As a result, there is a great deal of interest in the results of this meeting.

Committee working on memorandum preparation

The Drafting Committee is addressing crucial employee-related matters, such as salaries, pensions, and job-related concerns, and is in the process of preparing a joint memorandum to be submitted to the 8th Pay Commission. A significant meeting of the committee took place on March 12, 2026, where input from various employee and pensioner organizations was reviewed. The Commission is developing a plan to create a proposal that incorporates all these factors.

8th Pay Commission receives time and responsibility

In February 2026, the government informed Parliament that the establishment of the 8th Central Pay Commission had already been announced. According to the resolution dated November 3, 2025, the Commission has been allotted 18 months to present its recommendations.

The Commission is also responsible for making recommendations regarding salaries, allowances, pensions, and other benefits for central government employees. It is anticipated that the Eighth Pay Commission will be implemented by 2027.

The fitment factor will influence the salary increase

The salary increment for government employees will be based on the fitment factor, which the 8th Pay Commission will determine. Employee organizations are advocating for this figure to be 3.25 or higher, considering the ongoing rise in inflation. However, the precise salary increase remains uncertain.

Millions of central government employees and pensioners, who have been waiting for a long time for the formation and functioning of the Eighth Pay Commission, have received some relief. After five months, the commission has finally invited employee organizations for talks. This important meeting is scheduled for April 24th in Dehradun ( 8th CPC Dehradun Meeting ).

Earlier there were apprehensions that the Commission would only take suggestions online or would only talk to the JCM (NC-JCM), but now coming on the ground and meeting the organizations is being considered a positive sign.
