SBI Card Rules: SBI Card has updated its late payment fees for credit cards. This update will take effect next month. In addition to the new late payment fees, SBI Card has also adjusted the annual charge waiver limit for certain cards, starting May 1, 2026. As per the new guidelines, if your outstanding balance is over Rs 100 and up to Rs 500, you will incur a late fee of Rs 100. Previously, there was no late fee for balances up to Rs 500. Likewise, the late fee for balances between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 has increased from Rs 400 to Rs 500. However, the fees for balances exceeding Rs 1,000 will remain unchanged. SBI Card has not altered the late payment fees for higher balance tiers.
When is a late payment fee applied?
A late fee will be charged if you fail to pay at least the minimum due amount on your credit card by the due date. Additionally, if you do not pay the minimum amount for two consecutive billing cycles, an extra charge of Rs 100 will be added. This fee will keep accumulating each month until the balance is cleared.
Benefits for BPCL SBI cardholders
Beginning next month, another significant change is on the horizon for SBI card users. In a notice released late last month, the company revealed that BPCL SBI cardholders will see…Credit Card The spending threshold for the annual charge waiver will be modified. The annual fee of Rs 499 associated with this card is waived for every Rs 50,000 spent, which will be adjusted starting May 1. According to the notice, the new threshold has been raised from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. This means that BPCL SBI Credit Card users will need to spend Rs 1 lakh to qualify for the Rs 499 annual fee waiver. Only after reaching this amount will the fee be waived.
These rules have already changed in 2026
Earlier, SBI Card had changed some of its rules from January this year, in which rules related to cashback, reward points and lounge access were changed. Under these changes which came into effect on credit cards from January 15, 2026, reward points can be withdrawn within 90 days of getting cashback in launch offers and within 120 days of expiry of instant discount offers. At the same time, effective from January 10, 2026, domestic airport lounge access has been divided into Set A and Set B, which means which lounge you will get now will depend on the type of your SBI credit card.
