Driving License Validity
For your information, a private driving license is usually valid for 20 years from the date of issue or until you reach the age of 40-50 years. Commercial driving licenses, on the other hand, need to be renewed every 3 to 5 years. You can apply for renewal up to one year before your DL expires. There is a 30-day grace period after the license expires, during which no penalty is levied. If there is a delay in renewal, a late fee is charged. According to the rules, for a DL that has expired for more than 5 years, you may have to apply for a new license or take the driving test again.
