PM Kisan Yojana Update: Farmers have high expectations for the Union Budget 2026. Amid rising inflation and the ever-increasing cost of farming, rural India is keenly watching the government’s next move. Discussions have intensified, particularly regarding the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN), whether the amount of money farmers receive will increase this time. The biggest question is whether the government will increase the amount under the PM Kisan Yojana from Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 in the budget.

Can the money of PM Kisan increase?

Under the PM Kisan Yojana, eligible farmers receive an annual financial assistance of Rs 6,000, which is transferred directly to their bank accounts in three equal installments. However, given the current circumstances, farmer organizations and agricultural experts believe this amount appears insufficient. This is why there is a growing demand to increase this amount to Rs 8,000 annually in Budget 2026.

Why is there a need to increase the amount?

The cost of farming has surged dramatically over the last few years. Expenses for seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, diesel, electricity, irrigation, and agricultural machinery are all on the rise. As a result, marginal and small farmers are struggling to cover their annual costs with just Rs 6,000. If the government raises the amount allocated for this scheme, it will not only instill confidence in farmers to invest in agriculture but may also lessen their reliance on loans.

Rural economy can also get support

Experts suggest that a direct boost in farmers’ income will enhance rural demand. When farmers have more disposable income, rural markets will become more vibrant. This could benefit not just the farmers, but also rural businesses and small traders, including those dealing in seeds, fertilizers, tractors, and agricultural tools. Thus, the effects of the increase in PM Kisan will extend beyond farmers, potentially bolstering the entire rural economy.

Journey of PM Kisan Yojana

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana was initiated in December 2018. Its aim is to provide minimum income support to small and marginal farmers. Millions of farmers have benefited to date, with payments being processed through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

Now all eyes are on Budget 2026

Although there is no official word from the government at this moment, hopes have certainly grown. If Budget 2026 reveals an increase in the PM Kisan Yojana, it could offer significant relief to farmers during this inflationary period.
