IRCTC Train Ticket Refund Rule: Nowadays, millions of people travel by train every day in the country, and this service is primarily operated by Indian Railways. For the convenience of passengers, ticket booking and cancellation are managed online through IRCTC. Sometimes, for some reason, a trip must be cancelled. In such cases, the amount of refund received depends entirely on the time of cancellation.

According to railway rules, ticket cancellation charges vary depending on different times and classes. If the ticket is cancelled on time, a good refund can be obtained, but if there is a delay, the deduction increases.

Train Ticket Cancellation and Refund Rules

How much will be charged for cancelling a train ticket?

The amount deducted for cancelling a railway ticket depends on how far in advance you cancel the ticket. This rule applies specifically to confirmed tickets.

If a confirmed ticket is cancelled more than 48 hours before the scheduled departure of a train, a flat fare charge is deducted. This charge is โ‚น240 for AC First Class and Executive Class, โ‚น200 for AC Two-Tier, โ‚น180 for AC Three-Tier or AC Chair Car, โ‚น120 for Sleeper Class, and โ‚น60 for Second Class.

If the ticket is cancelled within 48 hours and up to 12 hours before the departure of the train, the cancellation charge is 25 percent of the fare. However, this amount cannot be less than the minimum flat fare.

If the ticket is cancelled less than 12 hours and up to 4 hours before the departure of the train, or until the chart is prepared, up to 50 percent of the fare can be deducted. The rules become more stringent after the chart is prepared.

E-Ticket Cancellation Rules After Chart Preparation

Under normal circumstances, e-tickets cannot be cancelled after the chart is prepared. In such cases, a TDR is required to be filed, and the refund is determined according to railway rules. If the ticket is not cancelled or the TDR is not filed in time, in many cases, the refund is not received.
