EPF: If you’ve tried to withdraw funds from your PF account and your request was denied, the most probable cause is a mismatch in your KYC information. Even a minor error in your name, date of birth, or gender can lead to the blocking of your entire balance. Thankfully, you can now rectify these mistakes online from the comfort of your home, without the need to fill out any forms or visit an office.

In fact, the EPFO checks your details against Aadhaar before processing any PF claims. Any inconsistencies in your name, date of birth, or gender could lead to your claim being turned down. Thus, it’s crucial to update your KYC promptly.

How can you update your KYC online?

You can correct your details in just five simple steps:

1. Log in to the UAN Member Portal using your UAN and password.

2. Navigate to the Manage section and select Modify Basic Details.

3. Input your correct name, date of birth, or gender as per Aadhaar.

4. Click on Update Details; after this, the status will show as Pending for Employer Approval.

5. Your employer will approve it online, and your details will be updated.

You can also update your bank information on your own.

If you need to change your bank account or IFSC code, you do not need your employer’s approval. You can make these updates yourself in the Manage KYC section, as long as your UAN is active and linked to Aadhaar.

Keep these points in mind before making updates:

– Your Aadhaar must be linked to your UAN.

– Have the necessary documents (Aadhaar, PAN, bank passbook) ready.

– Regularly check the KYC status on the portal.

Why is KYC important?

To withdraw PF online, complete KYC verification is essential. This requires an active UAN, a mobile number linked to Aadhaar, a bank account, and a linked PAN. If your PAN is not linked, a 30% TDS may be deducted for employment periods of less than five years.
