Delhi Women’s New Scheme: To empower women financially across the country, the Central and State governments are launching new schemes. Over the past few years, several states have implemented such schemes, from which women have derived significant benefits. The objective of these schemes is to provide financial support to women and enable them to become self-reliant. The Modi government, too, has launched numerous schemes for women to ensure they do not have to depend on anyone else.

Amidst these developments, the Delhi government is also poised to launch a scheme for women soon, under which financial assistance of ₹2,500 will be provided. According to media reports, registration for this scheme is expected to commence in June 2026. However, the exact launch date for this scheme has not yet been officially announced by the government.

While this initiative was previously known as the ‘Mahila Samriddhi Yojana,’ there is now widespread speculation that it will be officially renamed the ‘Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.’ It is worth noting that this scheme was included among the major electoral promises made by the BJP during the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.

₹2,500 to be Received Every Month
Under the ‘Delhi Lakshmi Yojana,’ women belonging to economically weaker sections (EWS) will receive a monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500, which will be deposited directly into their bank accounts. The Delhi government has already allocated ₹5,100 crore for this purpose in its 2026-27 budget. It is estimated that approximately 1.7 million (17 lakh) women could potentially benefit from this scheme. The pertinent question now arises: which women in Delhi will be eligible to receive these benefits, and how?

Which Women Are Eligible for the Scheme?
Not all women will be eligible to avail themselves of the benefits of this scheme; specific eligibility criteria and essential conditions have been established for this purpose.

To avail the benefits of this scheme, a woman must be between 21 and 59 years of age.
The woman must belong to either the Below Poverty Line (BPL) or the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category.
The woman must be a resident of Delhi or have resided in Delhi for at least 5 years.
The woman must not hold any government job, nor should she be a retired government employee.
The woman must not currently be a beneficiary of any other government welfare scheme. The family’s annual income should be approximately between ₹2.5 lakh and ₹3 lakh.
