In the last Aam Aadmi Party government, many elderly people in Delhi had to struggle to get their pension. After the change of power, this problem of late pension has been solved. Now a new pension scheme is being started for them. The Delhi government will launch 50,000 new pensions on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will start this new pension scheme on September 17.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that this step is for the elderly in Delhi who are poor and need help. Under this scheme, 50,000 more senior citizens will get pension support.
Pension Applications and Budget
Pension applications will be made on the e-District portal, and the process will be fully transparent. People will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Chief Minister said that about ₹149 crore has been kept for this scheme in the next budget year. She also said that if more people need pension in the future, the government will give more money without delay.
Appeal to Citizens and Current Numbers
The Chief Minister asked all senior citizens and their families to apply on time. She also urged elderly and disabled people to come forward and use these schemes.
Right now, the Delhi government gives pension to about 3.8 lakh women, 4.6 lakh elderly, and 1.3 lakh disabled people. The government spends about ₹1,140 crore every year on pensions.
In the last election, BJP had promised to raise the pension by ₹500, which would add more cost to the government. But this promise has not been applied yet.
