The Bihar government is continuously working towards integrating modern technologies into agriculture. In this regard, the agricultural drone spraying scheme has been implemented, aiming to provide farmers with better production at a lower cost. The use of drone technology makes the work faster, safer, and more effective compared to traditional spraying methods.
How will drone technology change farming?
Under this scheme, liquid fertilizers and various types of pesticides are sprayed evenly on crops using drones. The drone applies the precise amount of chemicals from a height, ensuring the crop receives the necessary nutrients. This not only reduces the consumption of chemicals but also minimizes the impact on the soil and environment.
Scheme achievements in 2024-25
According to the Bihar Agriculture Department, during 2024-25, drone spraying was successfully carried out on more than 27,666 acres of agricultural land in the state. This figure shows that farmers are rapidly adopting this new technology and are also receiving real benefits from it.
How much subsidy will farmers receive?
Under the agricultural drone spraying scheme, the government is providing a subsidy of up to 50 percent on the prescribed fee. A maximum amount of Rs. 240 per acre is provided by the government, while the remaining cost has to be borne by the farmer. This allows even small and marginal farmers to benefit from modern technology.
What is required for the application?
To avail of this scheme, farmers must be registered on the Bihar Agriculture Department’s DBT portal. After registration, farmers can apply online from anywhere and book drone spraying services for their fields.
Benefits for farmers
Drone spraying allows for covering a larger area in less time. This reduces dependence on manual labor and lowers costs. Due to uniform spraying, the health of the crop improves, leading to improvements in both yield and quality. In the long run, this also strengthens the possibility of increasing farmers’ income.
