Big Update for Ration Card Holders, Here’s How Much Wheat and Rice You’ll Get Now
Ration Card Update: The government has taken a major decision to make the ration distribution system more practical and transparent. The standard for food grain distribution has been changed in all districts of the Agra and Aligarh divisions. The main objective of this change is to curb the black market in rice and ensure ration distribution according to local consumption. The new system will be implemented in February. District supply officers have issued the necessary guidelines to all ration dealers in this regard.

Why was a change in distribution necessary?
For some time now, several cases of illegal purchase, sale, and storage of ration rice have come to light in the district. Investigations revealed that a large number of ration cardholders sell their share of rice. This is because rice consumption is lower than wheat consumption in this region. Taking advantage of this situation, middlemen and traders buy rice at low prices and sell it at higher prices in the market. Rice is collected and transported to traders via bicycles and e-rickshaws, which fuels the black market.
The new system is to be implemented from February
Understanding this practical problem, the government has decided to distribute rations according to regional food habits. An order was issued on January 14 by the Additional Commissioner of the Food and Civil Supplies Department. Under this order, the quantity of rations per unit will now be changed in the districts of Agra, Aligarh, Meerut, and Saharanpur divisions. Earlier, where two kilograms of wheat and three kilograms of rice were given per unit, now three kilograms of wheat and two kilograms of rice will be provided.

Rations for Antyodaya Cardholders
The new system will also affect Antyodaya cardholders. Now, instead of 14 kg of wheat and 21 kg of rice, they will receive 21 kg of wheat and 14 kg of rice. The government believes that this will stop the unnecessary sale of rice and ensure the proper use of rations.
Strict instructions given to ration dealers
District supply officers have instructed all ration shopkeepers to distribute food grains according to the new standards from February. Action will be taken against any kind of irregularity or disregard of the rules. The administration says that this change will make the ration distribution system more balanced and transparent.
