Bank Holiday: Big news for bank customers. Today, Thursday, March 26th, banks will be closed. Most states across the nation will observe this closure due to Ram Navami. This significant Hindu festival marks the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Ram. It occurs on the ninth day of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) in the month of Chaitra and is celebrated with great respect and devotion throughout the country. Hence, banks will not operate tomorrow in several states.

Banks will be closed today

March 26 – Ram Navami

In Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Ranchi, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Kolkata, banks will remain closed.

On March 27 – Ram Navami (Chaite Dashain)

Banks will also be closed in Ahmedabad, Dehradun, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, and Gangtok.

On March 31 – Mahavir Jayanti

Banks will be closed in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, and Ranchi.

Banks will be closed but online services will continue

Even though bank branches remain closed, essential services for customers will remain operational. You can easily send money through internet banking, mobile banking apps, UPI, NEFT, and RTGS. Furthermore, ATM cash withdrawals, balance checks, and bill payments will also remain available. This means that essential daily tasks will continue uninterrupted.

How bank holidays are determined?

Bank holidays in India are determined by the Reserve Bank of India. These holidays are declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act. In addition, individual states also determine holidays based on local festivals. Banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, while Sunday is a weekly holiday.

What should customers do?

In such a situation, if you have any urgent work to do, such as depositing a check , making a draft, or visiting a bank branch, it’s best to get it done in advance. Otherwise, the continuous holidays can cause problems. While digital services are helpful, there are some tasks that can only be accomplished by visiting the bank. Therefore, a little planning can save you from major trouble.
