Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has become extremely popular in India today. People use it for bill payments, shopping, and everyday transactions. In August 2024, UPI processed 14.96 billion transactions, totaling ₹20.61 lakh crore—a whopping 41% increase over the previous year.
UPI’s popularity is due to its simplicity. All you need is a smartphone, a SIM card linked to your bank account, an internet connection, and the UPI app. Payments are made using a UPI PIN. While other methods require an OTP, UPI’s PIN-based system makes it secure and convenient. If you forget your UPI PIN, you can easily reset it. And the best part is, even if you don’t have an ATM card, you can now reset it using your Aadhaar card.
How to reset your UPI PIN using your Aadhaar card
Before starting the process to reset your UPI PIN with your Aadhaar card, ensure the following:
Your Aadhaar card must be linked to your bank account.
Your Aadhaar card must have the same registered mobile number on both your Aadhaar and bank accounts.
You must have the first six digits of your Aadhaar card.
Rules for resetting your UPI PIN
Open any UPI app on your mobile (e.g., PhonePe, Paytm, Google Pay, etc.).
Go to the “Bank Account” option in the menu and select your linked account.
Click on the “Reset UPI PIN” option.
Select the “Aadhaar Card” option for identity verification and enter the first six digits of your Aadhaar card.
You will receive an OTP (One-Time Password) on your registered mobile number; Enter it carefully.
You will now be prompted to create a new UPI PIN. Create a strong 6-digit PIN.
Enter it again to confirm the new PIN and complete the process.
