8th Pay Commission: Exciting news for central government employees and pensioners! The 8th Central Pay Commission has initiated the process of gathering suggestions regarding reforms on salaries, allowances, and pensions. The Commission is inviting employees, pensioners, service organizations, and various government departments to share their suggestions and requests online. The portal for submissions has been active since March 5, 2026, and will remain open until April 30, 2026.
What are the details?
As per the information available on the Commission’s website, this process will be entirely online. Employees or organizations can submit their inputs through the 8cpc.gov.in and innovateindia.mygov.in portals. Users need to log in to their MyGov account, which can be accessed using an email address or mobile number, along with an OTP or password. The Commission has made it clear that emails, physical memoranda, or PDF files sent outside the portal will not be accepted.
A diverse range of stakeholders is participating in this process. This includes both industrial and non-industrial employees of the Central Government, officers of the All India Services, members of the Defence Forces, employees of Union Territories, officers and employees of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department, staff of the Supreme Court and some High Courts, employees of regulatory bodies established under Acts of Parliament, and pensioner organizations. The Commission emphasizes that these suggestions will assist in understanding the expectations and challenges faced by employees and pensioners.
Four distinct categories
Four different categories have been established for submitting suggestions on the online portal. In the Individual/Employee/Pensioner category, any employee or pensioner can express their personal views. In the Association/Union category, collective demands from employee organizations will be submitted. In the Ministry/Department/Union Territory category, designated nodal officers of government departments will submit suggestions via official email. A separate category has also been created for judicial officers.
Millions of employees benefit?
The 8th Pay Commission will determine the salaries, allowances, and pension structure of approximately 4.8 million central government employees and approximately 6.7 million pensioners. Therefore, this consultation process is considered a crucial step before the Commission prepares its report. After receiving demands from employees and their organizations, the Commission will study them and then make its recommendations to the government.
What are the demands?
Meanwhile, employee organizations have also started putting forward their demands. AITUC has placed 12 major demands before the Commission, which include 3.0 fitment factor, restoration of Old Pension Scheme (OPS), increasing the annual increment from 3% to at least 6% and a new formula for calculating DA. Apart from this, demands like increasing the limit of leave encashment from 300 days to 450 days, cashless medical facility, menstrual leave, more paternity leave and increasing risk allowance have also been put forward. The union has also demanded from the government to fill around 15 lakh vacant posts through regular recruitment.
