UIDAI Says mAadhaar App Will Soon Be Retired : The Unique Identification Authority of India, UIDAI, has now said pretty clearly that the older mAadhaar app will be shut down, and people should shift to the newly launched Aadhaar app. This new app is being pitched as more modern, more secure, and more privacy driven for Aadhaar holders across India, you know kindof like that.
From what different reports are saying , the new Aadhaar app includes upgraded capabilities such as QR based identity sharing, face authentication sign in, biometric lock controls, and selective information sharing as well. UIDAI also claims the updated app is supposed to make Aadhaar “smarter, faster, and more secure” than the older mAadhaar platform, so yes.
What changes in the new Aadhaar app
One of the main upgrades is the QR based Aadhaar sharing setup. Instead of handing over photocopies , or repeatedly showing the full Aadhaar number everywhere, users can share only the relevant details using secure QR verification.
The app also supports offline verification, so identity checks can still work even if there is no steady internet connection, at least in certain scenarios. Users can choose what to share, like name, age, address, or even a photograph , while the remaining stuff stays hidden for stronger privacy.
Biometric locking is another big addition. Users can lock fingerprint, iris, and face authentication directly from inside the app, which should reduce the risk of unauthorized Aadhaar usage.
Existing mAadhaar users need manual setup
Reports suggest the data from the old mAadhaar app may not automatically move into the new Aadhaar app. So, people might need to manually re set up their Aadhaar profile after installing the updated application.
Usually, the setup involves OTP verification using the Aadhaar linked mobile number. After that, there can be an optional face authentication step for extra security. Users can also set a six digit app password during the process if they want.
Extra features and family support
The new Aadhaar app also lets you manage multiple family profiles within the same app account. Reports indicate that in some cases , up to five family member Aadhaar profiles can be added.
UIDAI has also improved how updates are handled for mobile numbers, address changes, and authentication history tracking in the new platform. And yes, the app includes multiple Indian languages too, which should make things easier for people across different regions, not just one state or local area.
Why UIDAI is pushing the new app
UIDAI’s core push is about reducing risks tied to physical photocopies and the habit of oversharing personal Aadhaar details. Over time , privacy concerns around Aadhaar misuse have been growing, so UIDAI seems to be focusing more on selective sharing and safer digital verification methods.
The new Aadhaar app is available for Android as well as iPhone users via official app stores. UIDAI has told users to download the updated app before the old mAadhaar service is fully retired.
