Volkswagen, a car enthusiast worldwide, has made a significant and historic breakthrough in the world of electric mobility. The company has officially unveiled the Volkswagen ID Polo GTI, the electric version of its highly popular hot hatchback. This model is the company’s first pure electric model to feature the iconic performance-oriented “GTI” badge.

Compared to the recently introduced standard Polo EV, this car not only looks more aggressive and sporty, but also boasts advanced features like a robust 226 hp, a stunning black-and-red interior theme, and a front locking differential for on-track fire. If you’re a fan of speed and cutting-edge technology, this new pocket rocket from Volkswagen is sure to win your heart.

Volkswagen ID Polo GTI Powertrain

Volkswagen hasn’t just changed the looks of this new hot hatchback, but has also tuned its powertrain to a whole new level. The car features a large 52kWh battery pack, which is paired with a powerful electric motor mounted on the front axle. This powerful setup produces a maximum power of 226hp and 229 N · m of torque, giving this small car the power of a racing car.

In terms of acceleration, this electric hatchback accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 175 km/h. However, due to the increased power, its driving range is reduced by approximately 30 kilometers compared to the standard model. Nevertheless, it promises an impressive range of 424 kilometers (WLTP certified) on a single charge. To make charging easier, the car supports 105kW DC fast charging, which charges the battery from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes.

Driving Dynamics

The Volkswagen ID Polo GTI features several advanced mechanical upgrades to provide exceptional cornering grip and control. The company has standardized Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) suspension, simply known as adaptive dampers. This suspension adapts to road conditions and provides you with firm confidence through every turn.

It also features an electronically lockable front differential, borrowed from the popular petrol-powered Golf GTI, which prevents the car from skidding through corners at high speeds. Pressing a dedicated GTI button on the dashboard transforms the car’s entire chassis and drive system into a highly sporty mode, providing the driver with a pure racing-track experience.

Exterior Design

Although the exterior design is similar to the standard Polo EV, certain elements give it a very imposing and premium feel on the road. To enhance its front end, Volkswagen has equipped it with new Matrix LED headlights. The traditional red stripe just above the front bumper and the gleaming GTI badge give away its identity from a distance.

The car’s flanks are flanked by large, 19-inch alloy wheels, giving it a muscular stance. At the rear, a new roof-mounted spoiler with a center split further enhances its aesthetics. Furthermore, the interconnected LED light bars and glowing Volkswagen logo at both ends give the car a magical look at night.

Interior & Features

As soon as you open the doors, you’re greeted by a premium, dark-themed cabin. The entire interior is decorated with a black-and-red color combination. Its sporty seats proudly feature the GTI badge on the backrests and steering wheel. Red contrast stitching on the seats, steering wheel, and door pads, along with a bright silver trim running down the center of the dashboard, gives the cabin a racing feel.

This car is no less of a luxury SUV in terms of features. The main attractions on the dashboard are a massive 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital display with virtual dials for the driver. The cabin also boasts modern features like a wireless phone charger and dual-zone automatic climate control. Customers seeking even more luxury can opt for optional features like a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, 12-way powered front seats with massage function, and a beautiful fixed panoramic glass roof.

Pricing and When Will It Be Launched

Volkswagen has announced that it will launch its highly anticipated ID Polo GTI in Germany in late autumn 2026. Pricing will start at around 39,000 euros internationally, which translates to approximately ₹43 lakh (approximately ₹4.3 million) in Indian currency, excluding taxes and duties. The Indian market boasts a large Polo fan base, eagerly awaiting its arrival.
