LPG Update: Big news for LPG consumers. In recent days, there has been an increasing worry among the people of India regarding petrol, diesel, and cooking gas. With the ongoing tensions in West Asia and the Iran-Israel conflict, many are concerned that fuel rationing could be introduced in India. Various reports have been circulating on social media suggesting that petrol pumps may face restrictions, gas cylinders could be in short supply, and fuel shortages might arise. However, the central government has now reassured the public that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG in the country, and there are no current plans for rationing.

Officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) have confirmed that India possesses adequate stocks of crude oil, LNG, and LPG. There has been no fuel shortage reported anywhere across the nation. The government also mentioned that despite the tensions in West Asia, India is actively importing additional fuel to maintain uninterrupted supply chains.

According to government reports, over 14 million LPG bookings were made in just the last three days. Additionally, around 190,000 smaller 5-kg cylinders were sold. Officials attribute this surge to panic booking, as people are ordering more cylinders than they actually need out of fear.

Interestingly, there has also been a rapid increase in the demand for PNG (piped gas) connections. Since March, nearly 750,000 new PNG connections have been established, and over 700,000 existing connections have been activated. This clearly shows that individuals are seeking alternative gas options amid the uncertainty of the future.

The government has firmly stated that no directives regarding fuel rationing have been issued at this time. However, the ministry did note that in certain areas, there is a sudden shift in significant diesel demand towards retail petrol pumps, which is currently under observation.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Shipping has also shared some reassuring information. According to the ministry, two LPG carrier ships have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz and will reach India by May 16th and 18th. This sea route is considered one of the world’s most important oil routes. Additionally, 13 Indian ships remain in the area, including 12 LPG carriers and one crude oil carrier.

Experts believe that if tensions in West Asia continue, international crude oil prices could remain under pressure. This could also impact petrol, diesel, and gas prices in India. However, the government currently maintains that the situation is under control and is continuously working to increase stocks.

The government has urged people to ignore rumors and refrain from purchasing excessive amounts of fuel or gas. Officials say supplies in the country are completely normal and there is no need for the public to panic. Currently, India has sufficient reserves to meet its needs for several months to come.
