EPFO 3.0: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is embarking on a major digital transformation for its millions of members. Under EPFO 3.0, many PF-related services are being made fully digital and accessible. The most significant change will be the ability to withdraw funds from Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) accounts via UPI and ATMs. This feature hasn’t been implemented yet, but the government has indicated that it will be rolled out soon.
Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya recently stated that testing of EPFO 3.0 has been completed. Final preparations are now underway for its launch. However, no official date has been announced yet.
How can you access funds through UPI and ATMs?
With the implementation of EPFO 3.0, members will be able to transfer eligible PF funds directly to their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. Both UPI and ATM methods will be available. Currently, withdrawing PF funds requires an online application and verification, which can take considerable time.
The new system aims to minimise paperwork and expedite the withdrawal process, making it more transparent than ever. This will enable employees to quickly access their savings in case of emergencies.
What is the amount of PF that members can withdraw?
As per the EPFO framework, eligible members may withdraw between 50% and 75% of their total EPF balance. However, the final terms and conditions will be disclosed at the time of the launch. Additionally, it will be required to maintain a minimum balance of 25% of the total deposit in the account. This measure is designed to ensure employees’ retirement security, as the primary goal of EPF is to promote long-term savings.
Increase in auto-settlement limit to Rs 5 lakh
The government has also raised the auto-settlement limit to expedite the processing of EPF claims. This limit was previously set at ₹1 lakh but has now been increased to ₹5 lakh. This change will accelerate the settlement of eligible claims, reducing the lengthy wait for members to receive their funds. Experts believe that with the new system, many claims will be resolved within a few days.
Expansion of digital services
EPFO 3.0 will not only introduce withdrawal options but also a variety of other digital services. These will include face authentication via the UMANG app, instant UAN activation, easy access to passbooks, and corrections to Aadhaar-linked records. Overall, EPFO 3.0 could represent a significant advancement in making PF management simpler, quicker, and more transparent for millions of employees. However, the official announcement on PF withdrawals via UPI and ATMs is still pending.
