Angelo Mathews retires from Test cricket after the Bangladesh series. The Sri Lankan legend chose Galle, where he debuted, for his final red-ball match.

Mathews announced his Test retirement in May, saying it was time to let younger players lead Sri Lanka’s future in the longest format.
Decision
The 38-year-old is Sri Lanka’s third-highest Test run-scorer (8,167 runs). His final Test marks the end of a 118-match illustrious career.

White-Ball Exit
The veteran will train hard for six months to earn a spot in the 2026 T20 WC. "If we can win, I’ll give my best," he said.

Mathews was part of Sri Lanka’s 2014 T20 WC-winning team. His last T20I was in 2024, with 1,416 runs and 45 wickets in 90 matches.
